The US Senate confirmed Nisha Desai Biswal’s appointment to serve as the Deputy CEO of the prestigious and very powerful US International Development Finance Corporation.
The DFC tackles and solves the most difficult challenges being faced by developing countries in terms of giving loans, loan guarantees, direct equity investments, and political risk insurance for private-sector-led projects of development, feasibility studies, and assistance on technical issues.
Indian-American policy expert Nisha Biswal was selected by US President Joe Biden in March this year for this esteemed position in International Development Finance Corporation. Biswal is a graduate in international relations and economics from the University of Virginia.
She has a high-profile career of over 30 years of experience in US foreign policy and international development programs within the White House; US Congress and the private sector. She is currently the Senior Vice President for International Strategy and Global Initiatives at the US Chamber of Commerce, overseeing the US-India Business Council and US-Bangladesh Business Council.
During 2013 to 2017, Biswal was serving as Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, a key role for the Obama administration in South Asia. She was instrumental in the US-India strategic partnership, with the launch of an annual US-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue.
She has worked as an Assistant Administrator for Asia at the US Agency for International Development, supervising USAID programs and operations across South, Central, and Southeast Asia.
