As euphoria builds up in the whole of America, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to the US this week, Indian Americans held the ‘Unity march’ to express their love and extend a warm welcome to the PM. Not just in Washington, Indian Americans held the march in 20 major cities of this great nation including New York. During the march, the over-enthusiastic crowd and the community were seen chanting “Modi Modi,” “Vande Mataram” and “Vande America.”
This historic US visit of PM Modi from June 20-24, at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, has gathered much attention from the public and the US Government alike. The US president and the First Lady will also host PM Modi at a state dinner on June 22, and during the visit, Mr. Modi will address the joint sitting of the US Congress for the second time, which is a first and meet a number of American politicians, prominent citizens, and noted personalities from the diaspora.
As per India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, PM Modi’s state visit to the US will bring significant outcomes amidst the highest level of honor.
An Indian American participant, Ramesh Anam Reddy, during the unity march, emphasized, “We are all here, the Indian diaspora in Washington DC, Maryland and all the surrounding cities, we are all here to celebrate the ‘Unity Day’ and the PM Modi joining American president Biden. So, this is a great event and moment for all of us.”
“India is making all the difference. We wanted to celebrate that and wanted to make sure that everyone knows how Indian and American relationship is growing and how it is helpful.” Reddy said.
Raj Bhansali, another Indian American, said, “I am here to support Prime Minister Modi. It is great to feel and be able to engage with our Indian community. It is a very proud moment for all of us that PM Modi will be visiting the United States.”
