Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen delivered a memorable performance at the Hylo Open 2026, winning the women’s and men’s singles titles at the BWF Super 500 badminton tournament in Saarbrücken, Germany, on Sunday. The two players secured straight-game victories in their respective finals, giving India a double title triumph and ending the tournament on a high note.
Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the women’s singles final, clinching her second title of the season. The world No. 8 controlled the 39-minute contest with her sharp stroke play, deceptive shots and effective net game. The victory came a week after she finished runner-up at the French Open, marking a strong comeback from the disappointment.
In the men’s singles final, seventh-seeded Lakshya defeated Indonesia’s fourth seed Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 in 39 minutes. The victory ended his wait for a BWF World Tour title since his Australian Open triumph in November 2025. Lakshya displayed impressive court coverage, attacking strokes and composure to overcome the world No. 6 player. The win also levelled his career head-to-head record against Christie at 4-4.
For Sindhu, the victory marked her second BWF World Tour title of 2026, following her Japan Open Super 750 win in July. She also became the first Indian woman to claim the Hylo Open women’s singles crown.
The double victory comes as a significant boost for Indian badminton, with both players demonstrating their ability to bounce back from challenging performances and deliver on the international stage.
