Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India has started local assembly of the Land Rover Defender 110 at its Pune facility, reducing prices by up to Rs 34 lakh, with the luxury SUV now starting at Rs 99 lakh (ex-showroom). The company expects the move to boost sales volumes by up to 20 per cent as it seeks to expand its presence in India’s premium SUV market.
The locally assembled Defender 110 is available in the X-Dynamic HSE trim with three engine options. The 2.0-litre petrol variant is priced at Rs 99 lakh, while the 3.0-litre petrol and diesel versions cost Rs 1.18 crore each. All variants are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Previously imported as completely built units from Slovakia, the Defender 110’s local assembly has enabled JLR to reduce costs and offer additional features as standard. The price reduction is Rs 14 lakh for the 2.0-litre petrol variant and Rs 34 lakh for both 3.0-litre versions.
Bookings have opened through JLR India’s website and its 32 authorised dealerships, with deliveries scheduled to begin on November 15, 2026.
India has become the first market outside Europe to manufacture the Defender. Production for the Indian market will take place at JLR’s Pune facility, while its plant in Nitra, Slovakia, will continue producing other global versions, including the Defender 90, Defender 130 and Defender OCTA.
The company has also expanded the standard equipment on the locally assembled models. The 2.0-litre petrol version receives features worth up to Rs 6.5 lakh, while the 3.0-litre petrol and diesel variants gain additional equipment worth up to Rs 17 lakh.
The move comes as automakers increasingly turn to local assembly to improve price competitiveness and meet domestic demand. JLR expects the lower prices and enhanced specifications to strengthen the Defender’s appeal among Indian luxury SUV buyers.
