Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) temporarily shifted classes online after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three men at Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir, around two kilometres from the college campus. The college said the decision was taken as a precaution, with the safety and well-being of students remaining its top priority.
Regular classes were cancelled on Tuesday, while Wednesday’s classes were conducted online. The administration also advised students, faculty and staff to avoid gathering near the college’s back gate. Faculty mentors and the college counsellor were made available to provide support to students.
Students of Lady Shri Ram College for Women held a protest march on Wednesday following the alleged gang rape, raising concerns over women’s safety and security. Meanwhile, the college has announced that regular classes will resume offline on campus from September 24.
The incident took place on Monday evening at Aastha Kunj Park. According to police, the three accused allegedly approached the girl and her male friend while posing as police personnel. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
All three accused were arrested on Tuesday, officials said. One of them was injured during an exchange of fire with police near Amar Colony, close to LSR’s back gate. The other two suspects were also apprehended.
The incident has triggered concerns among LSR students about safety in areas surrounding the campus. The college has asked the Amar Colony police station to increase patrolling in lanes near the back gate and nearby parks. The administration said it was also in contact with Delhi Police to strengthen security arrangements around the campus.
