Security forces on Sunday apprehended a Pakistani national near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, marking the second such cross-border incident in two days and prompting increased alertness along the sensitive border region.

The detained person was identified as 31-year-old Rayees Khan, a resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Haveli district. Officials said he was caught after allegedly crossing the LoC into the Balakote sector of Poonch’s Mendhar subdivision. No incriminating material was recovered from him during the initial search, and he is currently being questioned by security and intelligence agencies to determine the circumstances behind his entry into Indian territory.

The latest incident comes shortly after another Pakistani national was apprehended in Poonch, raising concerns among security agencies about repeated attempts to cross the LoC. Earlier, a 26-year-old man identified as Mohammad Sajad was caught in the Gulpur area of the Krishna Ghati sector after allegedly entering Indian territory. He was also handed over for further investigation.

Officials are examining whether these crossings were accidental or deliberate. Security agencies are investigating all possible angles, including the possibility of attempts to assess vulnerabilities along the LoC. The back-to-back incidents have led authorities to maintain heightened surveillance in the border areas of Poonch.

The LoC, which separates Indian- and Pakistan-administered parts of Jammu and Kashmir, remains one of the most closely monitored border zones. Security forces regularly conduct surveillance and patrol operations to prevent unauthorised movement across the frontier.

Authorities said further questioning of Rayees Khan is underway, and more details are expected after the completion of the investigation.
