India sealed the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan with a commanding 170-run victory in the second ODI at the Ekana Stadium on Wednesday, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead. After posting a massive 402, India bowled Afghanistan out for 232 in 44.3 overs, underlining their dominance in all departments.
The foundation of India’s triumph was laid by captain Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, whose centuries powered the hosts to one of their highest ODI totals. Gill produced a magnificent 154 off 110 balls, while Kishan struck a rapid hundred as India crossed the 400-run mark for the eighth time in ODI history. Rohit Sharma also contributed with a brisk 48 at the top of the order.
Chasing 403, Afghanistan began positively through Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, who added 52 runs for the opening wicket. However, India’s bowlers steadily tightened their grip on the contest. Gurnoor Brar provided the breakthrough by dismissing Gurbaz and went on to claim three wickets. Arshdeep Singh matched that tally, while Prince Yadav picked up two wickets, including his maiden international scalp.
Despite a fighting 79 from Rahmat Shah and a useful 42 from Sediqullah Atal, Afghanistan never threatened India’s imposing target. Their scoring rate lagged behind the required rate throughout the chase, and regular wickets ensured the visitors remained out of contention.
The comprehensive victory highlighted India’s batting depth and bowling discipline, while also showcasing promising performances from newcomers. With the series already secured, India will enter the final ODI aiming for a clean sweep against Afghanistan.
