Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has made a strong opening at the Indian box office, surpassing Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar Part 1, within hours of its release despite mixed reviews and criticism on social media. The Geetu Mohandas-directed film crossed ₹100-crore mark in India on its opening day, strengthening expectations of a blockbuster start.
The film had already overtaken Dhurandhar’s opening-day India net collection of ₹28.60 crore. Toxic had collected ₹54.85 crore net in India by 3pm on day 1, according to trade estimates.
The film’s collections continued to climb rapidly with strong occupancy getting recorded across several language versions, with the Kannada version leading the morning shows. The film also benefited from substantial advance bookings, with more than 18 lakh tickets reportedly sold before release.
Toxic, which marks Yash’s return to theatres after KGF: Chapter 2, was released on August 26 across Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English. The cast includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria.
Despite its commercial momentum, the film has received a mixed response. While viewers have praised its stylised visuals and Yash’s performance, the film has also attracted online criticism over its violent and intimate content.
