Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has rewritten IPL history by surpassing legendary batsman Chris Gayle to become the tournament’s new six-hitting king in a single season. The Rajasthan Royals opener smashed his 60th six of IPL 2026 during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, breaking the 14-year-old record of 59 sixes held by Gayle since IPL 2012.

Sooryavanshi’s historic feat came in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, where he has now hit 65 sixes, the most by any batter in any T20 tournament ever. The left-handed teenager also became the youngest player to score 600 runs in a single IPL season, showcasing extraordinary power-hitting ability beyond his years. His explosive innings included a blistering half-century off just 16 balls, underscoring his aggressive batting style.

Chris Gayle, the West Indies icon known as “Universe Boss,” previously held the record with 59 sixes in IPL 2012 while playing for Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab). Gayle remains the all-time IPL six-hitter with 357 sixes across 142 matches, but Sooryavanshi has now overtaken him for the single-season crown.

His achievement marks a shifting of the guard in IPL power-hitting, with a teenage sensation challenging the dominance of established giants.

Sooryavanshi’s rise signals a new era in Indian cricket, where young talent is breaking long-standing records with remarkable speed. At just 15, he has already etched his name in IPL folklore, proving that age is no barrier to greatness in the world of T20 cricket.
