The death toll from the October 10 attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has risen to 14 after a second Indian national succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital. The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed the death on Wednesday, November 4, and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
The deceased was identified as Shaikh Sayeed, a resident of Nizamabad district in Telangana, who had been critically injured in the attack. He battled for his life for more than three weeks in the hospital before passing away. Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia expressed grief over his death and said the embassy had remained in touch with his family and Saudi authorities throughout his treatment.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Indian Embassy said it would extend all possible assistance to the family, including arrangements to transport his mortal remains to India or conduct his funeral in Riyadh, depending on their wishes. Sayeed is survived by his wife and three children, while his two brothers are also employed in Riyadh.
Earlier, another Indian national, 46-year-old Mohammed Yousuf Ali from Hyderabad, died from injuries sustained in the same attack. His funeral was held in Riyadh on October 12.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation had initially reported 12 deaths and 309 injuries following the attack. The toll subsequently rose to 13 after the first Indian national died and has now reached 14.
Saudi Arabia has blamed Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels for the attack, although the group has not officially claimed responsibility.
