Nepal has denied permission for the public screening of Bollywood film Udta Teer, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on October 23. The decision follows a review by Nepal’s Central Film Censor Board, which found that the film’s content fell under restrictions specified in the country’s cinema laws.

According to reports, Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology communicated the decision to the film’s distributor, National Cine Group Nepal, through an official letter. The ministry cited Section 8(3) of the National Cinema (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026, as the basis for refusing permission for public exhibition. The authorities have not publicly identified the specific scenes or elements that led to the decision.

Directed by Akash Kaushik, Udta Teer is a spy comedy that centres on a Pakistani agent who enters India on a mission but loses his memory. In an unexpected turn of events, he begins to believe that he is an Indian patriot, setting the stage for a series of comedic and chaotic developments.

The film also features Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and the late Mukul Dev in supporting roles. It is produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, bringing together the production houses behind several prominent Hindi films.

The screening denial comes days before the film’s scheduled release in India and leaves its theatrical release in Nepal uncertain. The decision also highlights the regulatory challenges faced by films dealing with politically sensitive subjects and regional relations.
