Mother Dairy has commissioned its first dedicated butter chiplet manufacturing line at its existing milk-processing facility in Junagadh, Gujarat, with an annual production capacity of 550 tonnes, as the dairy company expands its packaged butter portfolio and prepares to supply the product across India.
The new facility, located at Mother Dairy’s Junagadh Dairy in the Gandhigram area of Junagadh district, will manufacture 10-gram butter chiplets in a single-serve format. The company plans to distribute the products to markets across the country from the Gujarat facility.
The move gives Mother Dairy a dedicated domestic manufacturing base for butter chiplets and is part of its efforts to diversify its product portfolio and expand its presence in the packaged butter segment. The single-serve format is designed to provide greater convenience by offering measured portions of butter for individual use.
The 550-tonne annual capacity represents a dedicated production capability for the format, with Gujarat serving as the manufacturing base for planned pan-India distribution. The initiative also allows the company to use its existing milk-processing infrastructure in Junagadh for the new product line.
Butter chiplets are commonly used in settings where portion-controlled servings are required, including food-service and hospitality applications, besides household consumption. The new offering therefore adds another format to Mother Dairy’s packaged dairy portfolio.
Mother Dairy, a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), was established in 1974 as part of the Operation Flood programme. The company has since expanded its portfolio across milk, dairy products and other food categories.
With the Junagadh line, Mother Dairy will manufacture the 10-gram butter chiplets domestically and use the Gujarat facility to serve markets across India.
