Kunal Khemu’s Vibe continued to lead Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra at the Indian box office on Saturday, with the action-comedy earning ₹2.6 crore on first Saturday, compared with ₹1.60 crore collected by the Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer. The two films, which released in theatres on September 18, have recorded an improvement in collections on their first Saturday.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Vibe took its two-day India net collection to ₹4.35 crore after earning ₹1.70 crore on its opening day. Its India gross collection stood at ₹5.22 crore. The film recorded around 21% overall occupancy on Saturday across 2,979 shows, an improvement from its 14% occupancy on Friday.
Daayra, meanwhile, added ₹1.60 crore net on Day 2, taking its two-day total to ₹2.60 crore. The film recorded an overall occupancy of 20.46% across 2,062 shows. Its India gross collection reached ₹3.10 crore, according to the same data.
The Saturday figures showed stronger audience turnout for both films during later screenings. Daayra recorded 27.23% occupancy during evening shows and 26.69% at night, while Vibe registered its highest occupancy during night screenings at 32.69%. Bengaluru recorded the highest city-level occupancy for Daayra at 45.3%, followed by Chennai at 28.5%.
Directed by Khemu, Vibe is his second directorial after Madgaon Express. The film stars Khemu alongside Preity Zinta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Vanshika Dhir and blends action, comedy and thriller elements.
Daayra, directed by Gulzar, features Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles and is a crime thriller.
