Global Organization of People of Indian Origin – Connecticut Chapter (GOPIO-CT) joined hands with the Stamford Public Library for WorldFest: One City, Many Cultures, held on Sunday, August 16, at the Ferguson Library in Stamford. GOPIO-CT represented India at the festival which was put together by Ms. Yelena Klompus, Reference Librarian and ELL (English Language Learner) & Citizenship & Cultural Programs Manager at the Ferguson Library in Stamford, Connecticut
The program started with a welcome by Library President Alice Knapp. GOPIO-CT presented “Dances of India” as the opening item of the cultural performance at the library auditorium, showcasing the richness and diversity of India’s cultural traditions.
The festival celebrated the many cultures that make Stamford a vibrant and diverse community, with cultural presentations representing China, Haiti, Mexico, the United States, Bangladesh, Hungary, and India.

The Indian cultural segment was coordinated by Ms. Yashasvi Jhangiani with GOPIO-CT volunteers and performers coming together to make the presentation a success.
GOPIO International Chairman Dr. Thomas Abraham and GOPIO-CT President Mahesh Jhangiani were also present to support and celebrate the event.
“GOPIO-CT is proud to partner with the Stamford Public Library in promoting cultural understanding, community harmony, and appreciation of Stamford’s rich multicultural heritage,” said Jhangiani.
Over the last 20 years, GOPIO-CT, a chapter of GOPIO International has become an active and dynamic organization hosting interactive sessions with policy makers and academicians, community events, youth mentoring and networking workshops, and working with other area organizations to help create a better future. GOPIO-CT – Global Organization of People of Indian Origin – serves as a non-partisan, secular, civic and community service organization – promoting awareness of Indian culture, customs and contributions of people of Indian origin through community programs, forums, events and youth activities. It seeks to strengthen partnerships and create an ongoing dialogue with local communities.
