Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a mega order worth ₹10,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore to build what is being described as India’s largest single-cluster artificial intelligence infrastructure facility, marking the engineering major’s entry into the AI factory business. The facility will be built at L&T’s data centre campus in Chennai for US-based AI cloud company Together AI.
The project will deploy 10,000 NVIDIA B300 GPUs, creating a high-performance computing cluster designed to support large-scale AI workloads, including model training, fine-tuning and inference. The scale of the deployment highlights the rapidly growing demand for computing infrastructure as companies expand their use of generative and advanced AI technologies.
The order comes as L&T expands beyond its traditional engineering and infrastructure businesses into data centres and advanced digital infrastructure. The company had earlier announced a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to develop sovereign, gigawatt-scale AI factory infrastructure in India, combining L&T’s engineering and project-execution capabilities with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing technologies.
The Chennai facility is expected to strengthen India’s capacity to host advanced AI workloads domestically and could support the country’s broader ambition of becoming a major global hub for AI computing. L&T has been developing its data-centre capabilities as demand rises from cloud providers, enterprises and AI companies.
The project also underscores the increasing importance of high-capacity data centres in India’s technology infrastructure. With AI models requiring increasingly powerful computing resources, large GPU clusters, reliable power and specialised cooling systems are becoming critical components of the digital economy.
For L&T, the order represents a significant step into a fast-growing segment, while for Together AI, the facility provides additional infrastructure to expand its AI cloud platform and computing capabilities from India.
