Ahead of India’s Independence Day celebrations, Delaware has proclaimed August 15, 2026, as ‘India Day’, honouring India’s rich legacy and the role of the Indian-American community.
The details were shared by the Consulate General of India in New York in a post on X.
Thanking Governor Matthew Meyer for proclaiming August 15, 2026, as “India Day” in Delaware, the post underlined how on India’s Independence Day, the proclamation recognises the contributions of Delawareans of Indian heritage in work, leadership, and service, strengthening shared prosperity.
It celebrates India’s rich diversity of languages, traditions, faiths, and customs, and the Indian American community’s role in carrying them forward in the US and also honours Delaware’s Indian-American community and the enduring ties between India and the United States.
As India prepares to mark its milestone 80th Independence Day, this year’s celebrations will have a special focus on the commemoration of 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’.
The milestone celebrations will place a heavy emphasis on ‘Yuva Shakti’ (youth power), honouring the success and contributions of students and young citizens.
The 80th Independence Day celebrations promise to blend profound historical traditions with a forward-looking tribute to India’s rising generation.
Earlier, the American states of New York and New Jersey proclaimed August 15, 2026, as India Independence Day.
