Madhavan Brings ‘Edison of India’ to Life in GDN Trailer

The makers of GDN, the upcoming biographical drama on legendary inventor G.D. Naidu, have unveiled its official trailer, offering audiences a first look at R. Madhavan’s transformation into the pioneering industrialist often hailed as the “Edison of India.” The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026.

Launched at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, Naidu’s hometown, the trailer showcases Madhavan portraying the visionary engineer, entrepreneur and educator whose contributions helped shape India’s early technological and industrial landscape. Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, the period drama traces Naidu’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the country’s most celebrated innovators.

The film highlights Naidu’s relentless pursuit of innovation, his pioneering work in engineering and manufacturing, and his efforts to promote technical education. The trailer also hints at the personal struggles and societal challenges he faced while pursuing groundbreaking ideas, presenting an emotional and inspiring portrait of a man who stayed ahead of his time.

Produced by Varghese Moolan Pictures in association with Tricolour Films, GDN features an ensemble cast including Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Priyamani, Yogi Babu, Dushara Vijayan and Thambi Ramaiah. The film aims to introduce Naidu’s extraordinary legacy to younger audiences while celebrating his enduring influence on Indian science, technology and education.

Madhavan, known for acclaimed performances in biographical films such as Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, once again takes on the role of a real-life trailblazer. Early reactions to the trailer have praised the actor’s striking physical transformation and the film’s authentic recreation of a pivotal era in India’s industrial history, raising expectations ahead of its release later this month.
