India will visit Sri Lanka for its first Test tour of the island in nearly nine years, with the two-match series scheduled from August 15 to 27 in Galle and Colombo as part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle. The fixtures, announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), are expected to play a key role in shaping both teams’ qualification hopes for the WTC final.

The opening Test will be played at the Galle International Stadium from August 15 to 19, while the second Test will be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo from August 23 to 27. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. IST.

India, led by Shubman Gill, enters the series looking to strengthen its position in the WTC standings after an inconsistent start to the cycle. Sri Lanka, too, will view the home series as an opportunity to gain valuable points in familiar spin-friendly conditions.

Although India has enjoyed success in Sri Lanka in recent years—including a dominant 3-0 Test series sweep under Virat Kohli in 2017—the hosts have traditionally been a formidable side on turning tracks in Galle. The conditions are expected to test India’s batting line-up while placing added emphasis on its spin attack.

With crucial WTC points on offer and both teams eager to build momentum, the August series promises to be an important chapter in India’s overseas Test campaign and another significant contest in one of Asia’s enduring cricket rivalries.
