India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has emerged as the country’s highest-ranked batter in the latest ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, overtaking teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal following another impressive performance with the bat. The latest rankings update also saw a change at the top of world cricket, with England’s Harry Brook replacing Joe Root as the No. 1 Test batter.

Gill climbed two places in the rankings after scoring a century during India’s recent Test assignment against Afghanistan. His rise has taken him above Jaiswal, who had previously held the distinction of being India’s highest-ranked Test batter. The development reflects Gill’s strong run of form since taking over leadership responsibilities in the longest format.

The ranking reshuffle comes amid a productive phase for the 26-year-old, who has consistently delivered crucial runs for India. Gill’s recent performances have not only strengthened his standing among the world’s leading batters but have also reinforced his growing reputation as a dependable Test captain.

At the global level, Brook’s return to the summit ended Root’s stay at the top of the batting rankings. The England duo continue to occupy the leading positions in a highly competitive rankings table featuring several established stars from across the cricketing world.

Jaiswal, meanwhile, remains among the highest-ranked Test batters and continues to be a key figure in India’s batting lineup despite being displaced by Gill in the national ranking’s hierarchy.
