Indian American Impact proudly congratulates Nithya Raman on advancing to the November runoff election for Mayor of Los Angeles – a race that could make her the first South Asian American mayor of the nation’s second-largest city.

This victory reflects the growing political power of Indian and South Asian American communities in California, a state with more than 1 million South Asian residents – the largest such population in the country.

Chintan Patel, Executive Director of Indian American Impact, released the following statement:

“Nithya Raman’s advancement to the November runoff is a testament to the power of a campaign built on a simple, urgent truth: Los Angeles must be affordable and safe for everyone.

Los Angeles voters recognized what Indian American Impact has always known: Nithya Raman is exactly the leader this city needs. Her vision for a city where working families can afford to stay, immigrants are protected, and no one is left behind has resonated across one of the most diverse electorates in America. As an immigrant herself, Nithya knows firsthand what is at stake for communities like ours.

If she wins in November, South Asian Americans will lead the two largest cities in the United States. Indian American Impact could not be more proud to stand with Nithya, and we will do everything in our power to see her across the finish line.”

Since its inception in 2016, Indian American Impact has endorsed and supported 200+ candidates across the country, contributing to the historic rise of Indian and South Asian American representation in politics. Through strategic investments and grassroots organizing, Impact has marshaled upwards of $20 million to candidates and robust voter mobilization and policy advocacy efforts, amplifying the voices of South Asian Americans and driving positive change in communities nationwide.
