The Centre has formed a high-level committee to study unusual demographic changes across India and suggest a time-bound solution, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday. The panel will be headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar, and it will examine changes linked to illegal immigration and other unnatural causes.

Shah said the committee will carry out a detailed assessment of demographic shifts taking place in different parts of the country. It will look at population changes among religious and social communities and study the patterns behind what the government has described as abnormal movement in these groups.

According to the reports, the committee will also include the census commissioner, retired IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra, former IPS officer Balaji Srivastava and Dr. Shamika Ravi as members. The panel has been tasked with preparing a structured and practical response to the issue.

Shah said the committee’s work will cover demographic changes caused by illegal immigration and other unusual factors. He said the government wants a clear and timely solution after studying the issue in detail across the country.

The move comes amid growing concern in government circles over illegal immigration and its impact on population patterns in some regions. The panel is expected to examine the issue carefully and submit recommendations that can help the Centre respond to the challenge.
