Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has successfully commissioned a cumulative 3.37 Gigawatt-hour (GWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Khavda in Gujarat, marking the world’s largest single-location battery storage deployment outside China.

The unprecedented BESS enhances clean energy reliability for millions and stands among the swiftest utility-scale installations ever completed, finished in a mere ten months. This achievement incorporates an additional 1.37 GWh capacity introduced in March 2026, which elevates AGEL’s operational BE capacity at Khavda to 3.37 GWh.

The system can store enough clean energy to power nearly 10 lakh homes for a full day, strengthening round-the-clock renewable power and grid stability. AGEL has launched this world-record 3.37 GWh battery storage project, significantly enhancing grid stability and supporting the company’s goal of achieving 45 GW renewable capacity by 2030.

Located at the Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat, this project represents the largest single-site storage deployment globally, aimed at providing round-the-clock clean energy. The facility addresses a critical challenge in renewable energy, storage, enabling consistent power delivery even when solar and wind generation fluctuates.

This historic commissioning follows the Adani Group’s strategic entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems sector announced in November 2025, which originally planned for the largest BESS installation in India. The project’s completion validates AGEL’s execution capabilities and positions India as a global leader in utility-scale energy storage infrastructure.

The BESS installation strengthens Gujarat’s position as India’s renewable energy hub and demonstrates the viability of large-scale battery storage for supporting grid-scale renewable energy integration across the country.
