Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill scripted another milestone in the Indian Premier League 2026 after surpassing Sachin Tendulkar on the list of Indian batters with the most runs as captain in T20 cricket during Gujarat Titans’ clash against Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Gill achieved the feat with a blazing knock of 64 runs off 37 balls as Gujarat Titans pushed for a top-two finish despite already securing a playoff berth. The innings helped him move ahead of Tendulkar in the elite tally led by Virat Kohli. According to reports, Gill’s consistent run-scoring form has placed him among the leading captains in T20 cricket and further strengthened his growing reputation as one of India’s premier batters.
The landmark came during an outstanding IPL season for the Gujarat Titans skipper. Earlier this week, Gill also entered an exclusive captaincy list featuring Kohli and Tendulkar after another impressive performance in IPL 2026. He additionally became only the third captain in IPL history after David Warner and KL Rahul to score 600 or more runs in consecutive IPL seasons.
Gill’s partnership with teammate Sai Sudharsan has also dominated headlines this season. The Gujarat Titans opening duo recently equalled a massive T20 record previously held by Kohli and Chris Gayle and became the only pair from the same IPL team to score more than 600 runs each in a single season.
With Gujarat Titans heading into the playoffs in strong form, Gill’s record-breaking season continues to underline his importance both as a batter and captain in the IPL.
