Dharma Productions’ latest romantic drama Chand Mera Dil, starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, released in theatres worldwide on Friday portrays a college love story with a refreshingly different take. Directed by Vivek Soni, the film attempts to portray a modern relationship drama centered on college sweethearts Aarav and Chandni navigating love, adulthood and emotional trauma.
The film has been described as “visually polished” with “strong music and imagery,” but many reviewers criticised its emotional inconsistency and melodramatic storytelling. One review rated the film 1.5 out of 5 stars, saying the movie “tries to do a lot, all of it badly,” while other called it “emotionally confused.”
The movie explores themes of “generational trauma, love, responsibility and parental influence,” and praised the emotional effort of the lead actors despite what it called a “convoluted script and extra runtime.”
Critics also noted that the chemistry between Panday and Lakshya remained one of the film’s stronger aspects.
Online reactions remained divided, with some viewers calling the film a “one-time watch” while others praised Lakshya’s performance and the emotional soundtrack.
