The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested wanted narco-terrorist Iqbal Singh alias Shera on Wednesday at Delhi airport. This came right after his extradition from Portugal following long diplomatic and legal efforts.

Iqbal Singh, described as the mastermind of a major Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terror financing case, had fled to Portugal in 2020. NIA teams took him into custody as soon as his flight landed. The agency called this a big win in its fight against Pakistan-backed narco-terror networks.

Shera faces charges of smuggling and selling heroin to fund Hizb-ul-Mujahideen activities. He was already in a Portuguese jail serving a five-year sentence in a local case. India pushed hard through courts there to bring him back for trial in the terror case registered in Mohali.

NIA said Shera’s arrest boosts their crackdown on cross-border terror. The case links to Punjab, where an open arrest warrant was issued against him in October 2020.

This arrest shows India’s strong action against terror funding via drugs. NIA now plans deeper probe into his networks. Officials stress such steps will curb Pakistan-supported threats.
