Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has created IPL history by becoming the first bowler in the world to take 200 wickets in India during the Indian Premier League. The milestone came on April 30, 2026, in the IPL 2026 match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Bhuvneshwar needed just two wickets to reach 200 IPL wickets in India. He achieved the feat within five overs by dismissing GT openers Shubman Gill (43 runs off 18 balls) and Sai Sudharsan (6 runs off 5 balls). Sudharsan was caught by Jitesh Sharma, while Virat Kohli took the catch for Gill’s dismissal.

After reaching 200 wickets, Bhuvneshwar also claimed the wicket of Jos Buttler, bowling the former England skipper on the third ball of the eighth over during GT’s 156-run chase.

Bhuvneshwar currently leads the IPL 2026 Purple Cap race. Yuzvendra Chahal ranks second among Indian bowlers with 186 wickets in 154 IPL games in India.

RCB was bowled out for 155 runs. Devdutt Padikkal scored the top runs with 40, while Virat Kohli made 28 before falling to Kagiso Rabada. Bhuvneshwar remained not out on 15 with the bat. GT chased down the target with four wickets remaining, led by Rahul Tewatia’s unbeaten 27. Jason Holder and Rashid Khan each took two wickets for GT, while Arshad Khan claimed three.

Bhuvneshwar has played for three IPL teams: Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and RCB. He also played 15 IPL matches for SRH in the United Arab Emirates.
