West Bengal witnessed a massive voter rush as Phase 2 of the 2026 Assembly elections concluded with around 91.97% voter turnout by 7:30 PM. Voting took place across 142 constituencies in seven districts, including Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly, and Purba Bardhaman.
The most watched contest is in Bhabanipur, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee (Trinamool Congress) faces opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari (BJP) — a rematch of their 2021 Nandigram battle. Mamata has held Bhabanipur since 2011, when Trinamool first came to power. In 2021, Trinamool won 123 of these 142 seats, BJP won 18, and the Left won 1.
Purba Bardhaman recorded the highest turnout at 92.46%, while Kolkata South had the lowest at 86.11%. Over 3.2 crore voters were eligible to vote in this phase.
PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged voters to participate in “record numbers”. Counting will take place on May 4.
