Mumbai Indians produced a stunning turnaround in IPL 2026 as Tilak Varma struck an unbeaten 101 off 45 balls to sink Gujarat Titans by 99 runs in Ahmedabad. The left-hander’s maiden IPL century also equalled Sanath Jayasuriya’s 45-ball hundred from 2008 as the joint-fastest for Mumbai Indians.
Varma’s innings began slowly. He was on 17 off his first 20 balls and had 19 off 22 deliveries for much of the knock, before launching a fierce late assault that changed the match completely. In the final 23 balls, he smashed 82 runs and finished with 15 boundaries in that burst.
The century helped Mumbai post 199 for 5, a total that proved far too strong for Gujarat Titans, who were bowled out for 100 in reply. It also meant Varma became the first Mumbai Indians batter ever to outscore the opposition in an IPL match.
The performance carried extra weight because it came during a difficult season for the young batter. Before this match, he had been under pressure for poor form, but in Ahmedabad he delivered one of the most explosive innings of the tournament.
Varma also reached a personal milestone, winning his first Player of the Match award in his 60th IPL game.
