Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has officially confirmed that the war drama Gorkha will not be made for now, putting an end to years of speculation about the project. Speaking during a recent live chat, the actor said in Hindi: “Nahi, Gorkha movie nahi ban rahi hai” (No, the Gorkha movie is not being made).
The film, announced in October 2021, was to be a biographical war drama on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo of the 5th Gorkha Rifles, a decorated officer who fought in the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars. Akshay Kumar was set to play the lead role, with National Award‑winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan named as director.
However, the project has now been shelved due to what producers called “technical issues” and the need for certain factual clarifications. Aanand L Rai, one of the film’s producers, had earlier said, “Yes, it is true. We are not making this film for now… there are technical issues. There are factual clarifications that need to be made.”
The actor has also clarified that he did not walk out of the project, and that reports of a fallout with Rai or other creative differences are not true. Akshay Kumar made the remark ahead of the release of his horror‑comedy Bhoot Bangla, which is scheduled to hit theatres on 17 April 2026.
