Bihar got a new chief minister as BJP leader Samrat Choudhary took the oath of office at the Raj Bhawan in Patna. The ceremony marked the end of Nitish Kumar’s 20‑year stint as Chief Minister after he was elected to the Rajya Sabha and resigned on April 14.

Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (retd) administered the oath to Samrat Choudhary and two new deputy chief ministers – Janata Dal (United) leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav.

The ceremony was held at Lok Bhawan and was attended by Union Ministers JP Nadda and Chirag Paswan, along with NDA MLAs.

Choudhary, who is an OBC leader from the BJP, has been handed charge of key departments including home and general administration. Vijay Kumar Choudhary will handle important files such as water resources and education, while Bijendra Prasad Yadav will also hold major portfolios in the new government.

The formation of the new cabinet signals a fresh phase in Bihar’s politics, with the BJP and JD(U) again leading the NDA government after Nitish Kumar’s long tenure came to an end.
