The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has given a big honor to cricket legend Ravi Shastri. They named a stand at the famous Wankhede Stadium after him, during a special ceremony.

Ravi Shastri, who played for India in 80 Tests and 150 ODIs, also captained the team and coached from 2017 to 2021. Under his coaching, India reached the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, made the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup, and played in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Shastri called this honor a huge moment in his career. He said, “This is a significant honor, and it speaks to years of hard work and dedication.”

The Level 1 stand, below the press box, now carries Shastri’s name. MCA President Ajinkya Naik said Mumbai cricket is built on the work of such stalwarts. The event saw Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Naik attend. The MCA Apex Council approved this earlier this year.

MCA also named three gates after other heroes. Gate No. 3 is the Dilip Sardesai Gate, No. 6 is the Eknath Solkar Gate, and No. 5 is the Diana Edulji Gate. These steps celebrate the lasting role of these players in Indian cricket.

Shastri started his career with Mumbai in domestic cricket. This tribute reminds fans of the giants who shaped the game. Wankhede, home to many IPL wins and the 2011 World Cup final, now immortalizes these names for all to see.
