India has become the second most targeted country for global cyber scams, right after the United States. A new report from tech giant Meta warns that fraudsters are hitting Indians hard with fake calls, links, and messages by using AI in cybercrime. This news comes as more people use phones and apps for banking and shopping every day.

The report shows scammers often pose as police or bank staff. They trick people into sharing passwords or sending money. In India, losses from such frauds run into thousands of crores each year. Southeast Asia, including places like Cambodia and Myanmar, is a big hub for these gangs. Many run fake job scams that trap young Indians into forced cyber work.

Experts say the jump comes from fast digital growth. With over a billion internet users, India is easy prey. Common tricks include “digital arrest” calls, where crooks scare victims with threats of jail. Police say report scams fast on 1930 helpline.

To fight back, the government pushes new data laws and teams up with other countries. Banks now send alerts on risky links. But users must stay alert—check caller IDs, avoid quick money transfers, and never share OTPs.

Cyber safety starts at home. Teach family, especially elders, to spot fakes. As India goes digital, scams grow smarter. Stay safe, or pay the price.
