Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has told the Madras High Court it will stop using music from Rajinikanth films in its promotions. The IPL team made this promise during a hearing on a copyright case filed by Sun TV Network.

Sun TV, which produced films like Jailer, Jailer 2, and Coolie, claims CSK broke copyright rules. The network says CSK used songs and dialogues by composer Anirudh Ravichander in a video to launch its IPL 2026 jersey on March 1. These tracks, including “Hukum” and background scores, belong to Sun TV under agreements with the composer.

The promo video showed CSK captain MS Dhoni’s arrival and boosted jersey sales at Rs 2,399 each. Sun TV argues this gave CSK unfair commercial gains without permission, causing loss under the Copyright Act, 1957. It demands Rs 1 crore in damages and a ban on future use.

CSK’s lawyer, senior counsel PS Raman, assured Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy that the team has already removed the content from social media. He added that any future use would need proper approval. Sun TV’s counsel J Ravindran pushed for a counter-affidavit from CSK.

The court set the next hearing for March 16. This clash highlights rising copyright fights in sports promotions as IPL 2026 nears. Fans love the superstar flair, but legal lines are clear now.
