Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced a landmark partnership with NVIDIA, at the India AI Summit to build India’s largest gigawatt-scale AI factory under the IndiaAI Mission. This sovereign infrastructure aims to position India as a global AI powerhouse, serving domestic enterprises, hyperscalers, cloud providers, and international off-takers with production-grade AI capacity.

The venture integrates L&T’s engineering prowess in infrastructure development with NVIDIA’s advanced AI technologies, including GPUs, CPUs, networking, accelerated storage, and the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software stack. It will deploy AI-ready data centers and computing platforms to support large-scale workloads in priority sectors like manufacturing, energy, financial services, healthcare, and public services. Initial scaling targets 30 MW at L&T’s 300-acre Chennai campus and 40 MW at its new Mumbai data center under construction.

Designed for sovereignty, the AI factory ensures critical data, models, and workloads remain within India while interoperating globally, enabling secure and rapid AI adoption. It shifts Indian enterprises from AI pilots to production-scale deployment, fostering standardized, enterprise-grade capabilities with predictable performance and security. L&T group companies will leverage it for internal innovations, such as LTTS’s Lights-Out Factory using NVIDIA Omniverse, LTM’s Blueverse, and agentic AI deployments.

This collaboration advances India’s vision of “Making AI in India and Making AI Work for India,” creating a self-sustaining hub for global AI demand.
