Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration is proud to announce that Yogesh Uppal, professor of economics, has been appointed associate editor of Economics of Governance. The appointment was extended by Springer on behalf of the journal’s editors-in-chief, Thushyanthan Baskaran and Felix Muñoz-Garcia.

“I am honored to join the editorial team at Economics of Governance,” Uppal said. “The journal fosters research at many levels of governance, including corporations, nonprofit organizations, local and federal governments and international institutions, and brings together economists, organizational scholars and political scientists. It is a premier outlet for high-quality, interdisciplinary research on governance as a key driver of business, economic and political outcomes.”

As an associate editor, Uppal will oversee a select portfolio of manuscript submissions within his areas of expertise. His responsibilities include identifying qualified reviewers, evaluating scholarly merit and making publication recommendations in collaboration with the editors-in-chief.

The appointment aligns closely with Uppal’s research agenda, which examines the intersection of economic development, public policy and institutional governance.

“My research aligns well with the journal’s commitment to understanding how public and private institutions function and how they shape the outcomes we care about,” Uppal said. “I am excited to contribute to the journal’s mission by helping curate scholarship that is both methodologically rigorous and practically relevant to today’s global challenges.”

Interim WCBA Dean Christina Saenger emphasized the significance of the appointment for both the college and its students.

“We are incredibly proud of Yogesh Uppal’s invitation to serve as an associate editor for Economics of Governance,” Saenger said. “This role reflects the impact and relevance of his work, particularly his ability to connect rigorous theory to the practical challenges of leadership and accountability. For our students, it means they have a front-row seat to understanding how global experts evaluate information and solve complex problems, preparing them for the realities of the business world.”

Uppal noted that the role will directly enrich his teaching and mentorship.

Economics of Governance is a highly regarded international journal that publishes rigorous, interdisciplinary research on the economic dimensions of governance, including institutions, public policy and organizational structures across the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

Uppal’s appointment reflects the growing national and international recognition of faculty excellence within the Williamson College of Business Administration and reinforces Youngstown State University’s commitment to impactful research, high-quality teaching and student success.
