Pyre, the critically acclaimed feature by director Vinod Kapri, extended its impressive streak of accolades at the 2025 Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival (MISAFF), securing awards for Best Feature Film and Best Music, the latter bestowed upon Academy Award–winning composer Mychael Danna.
This latest triumph adds to the film’s extraordinary global journey — with 16 major international awards to its name. With two Best Director honours, Pyre has firmly established itself as one of the most celebrated independent films of the year.
Pyre, featured at the 2025 Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival (MISAFF) which was founded by Arshad Khan.

The awards were handed over by legendary filmmaker Deepa Mehta in Mississauga.
“To receive these honours from Deepa Mehta ji is a blessing I will treasure forever. Her unparalleled contribution to world cinema made this recognition even more special,” said Kapri at the event, expressing deep gratitude to the MISAFF jury, the festival organizers, and Canadian audiences who embraced the film with warmth and enthusiasm.
The film has drawn widespread acclaim for its cinematography, gripping narrative, compelling performances, and its music. Composer Mychael Danna was praised for crafting a musical tapestry that became the very heartbeat of Pyre, earning him the festival’s Best Music distinction.
Pyre was selected from a total of 94 films showcased at the festival that celebrated its 11th edition from November 24-30, 2025 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. A film festival Symposium was also hosted this year with a focus on series creation. Films at the festival were featured from several countries including Canada, India, the US, the UK, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Caribbean.
