“Congratulations, Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani! I’m delighted to see Zohran, a fellow South Asian American devoted to public service, stay true to his convictions and goals. His vision to make New York better is evident, and tonight’s results reflect the people’s trust in him. He inspires hope for a brighter future and stands as a role model for every immigrant. Wishing him all the best in continuing to serve and uplift our communities”
— Dilip Chauhan.

“Zohran Mamdani, won the New York City mayoral election last night, defeating former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the general election. His campaign was notable for mobilizing younger voters, strong outreach to Asian, South Asian, Muslim, and immigrant communities in NYC, and focusing on issues like housing affordability, public transit, and raising wages.

I think there are reasons to feel positive about Mamdani victory.

Mamdani himself is of South Asian background (Indian‐Ugandan descent, his mother is renowned film maker Mira Nair) and his win signals an increasing voice for immigrant and South Asian communities in NYC politics. That can help bring attention to issues affecting those communities.

His platform emphasizes housing, public services, and cost of living relief — issues highly relevant to immigrant communities and working families in NYC, including many Indian Americans. Mamdani campaign’s outreach to Asian, South Asian and immigrant voters suggests he may be more attuned to their concerns and more likely to engage those communities.

Overall, his victory does look like promising news for Indian Americans in NYC — it reflects increasing inclusivity, and could mean better advocacy for immigrant, South Asian and working‐class interests. But as with any political win, the proof will be in what policies get implemented, how effectively, and whether the community’s specific concerns are addressed.”

“We supported Zohran Mamdani from the very beginning because we believed in his vision for the community and had faith in his leadership. As someone with Gujarati roots, raised by a Hindu mother and a Muslim father, his story beautifully reflects New York’s diversity and unity. His victory is not just political it’s deeply personal for so many of us who believe in inclusion, compassion, and opportunity for all. Zohran’s journey reminds us that our differences are our strength. His win marks a powerful moment for representation and grassroots leadership. It’s inspiring to see a leader who truly listens, stands for every community, and works to build a city rooted in equity, empathy, and hope for the future.

“It is wonderful that for the first time, an Indian American won as the mayor of America’s largest city New York. In the early 1970s, when Indians started coming to New York City in large numbers, the general public was excited to see us in the city, and if an Indian had a conversation with an American, one would get a question, when would you go back to India. In 50 years, it has completely changed. Rep. Mamtani’s win further confirms that Indian Americans have reached to the mainstream of not only New York politics but in the American politics. The Indian American community is proud of Mamdani’s win.”

“The people of New York have given their verdict and they chose hope over propaganda. This is a new chapter in the history of New York City and the impact of this win is global. Now, Zohran Mamdani has to deliver on his promise and serve all New Yorkers.”
