Heavy rains have been causing havoc in Kolkata coming to a point where it has become a threat to human life in the city. Around 10 people have lost their lives to heavy rain overnight that have caused waterlogging in several different areas of the suburbs of Kolkata. The deaths in separate incidents have occurred in Beniapukur, Kalikapur, Netaji Nagar, Gariahat, Ekbalpur, Behala and Haridevpur.
These horrific incidents have taken place majorly across the central and southern parts of the capital of West Bengal. Out of the reported ten deaths at least nine of these deaths were caused due to electrocution.
Along with that the waterlogging all around the city has completely disturbed the traffic movement alongside the suburban rail and Metro services. Conditions have gotten so bad that water has entered many houses in the low-lying regions of the city. This has led to several schools declaring rain holidays for safety purposes.
The waterlogged streets have also become a major problem for people scheduled to board flights from the Kolkata airport. Both Air India and IndiGo have issued advisories and warned people about the flights getting delayed today. Please check the flight status before leaving for the airport and allow extra time for your journey due to traffic and waterlogging, Air India and IndiGo issued advisory.
