In their second encounter in the tournament, India has thrashed Pakistan once again continuing their winning streak in the tournament. In a high pressure match due to the whole controversy after the last clash between the two teams, India clinched the match on the back of spectacular performances from Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill and Shivam Dube.
Suryakumar Yadav had won the toss and called out Pakistan to bat first. However, unlike the last time Pakistan started off well with Sahibzada Farhan taking the charge to India’s ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah. India was a bit sloppy in the field and dropped 4 catches over the course of Pakistan’s innings.
Pakistan despite so many chances didn’t capitalise on the great start they had and only ended up scoring 171 runs with the loss of 5 wickets. Shivam Dube stepped up and was the pick of the bowlers for the Indian team picking up 2 wickets supported by Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya who took one wicket each.
When Abhishek and Shubman came out to bat it looked like a one sided affair as they toyed with the Pakistani bowling lineup smashing them all around the ground. Abhishek thrashed everyone and scored a brilliant 74 runs off 39 balls. They stitched up a 105-run partnership and took the match away from Pakistan’s grasp. Although Pakistan picked up a couple of wickets and tried to make a comeback in the game, it was too late and India cruised away to win the match with 6 wickets still in hand.
Suryakumar Yadav in the post match press conference took a slight dig at the Pakistani side asking the reporters to not call India vs Pakistan a rivalry anymore. He said, “Sir, rivalry and standard are all the same. Now what is a rivalry? If two teams have played 15 matches and it’s 8-7, that’s a rivalry. Here it’s 13-1 (12-3) or something. There is no contest.”
