‘Aabeer Gulal’ starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Indian actress Vaani Kapoor was not allowed to release in India following the Pahalgam terror attack back in April 22nd. Now, months later, the movie will finally be seeing a release on the big screen overseas on September 12, 2025, as announced by the director Aarti S. Bagdi through her Instagram account shared the trailer of the movie.
The trailer of the movie was removed from YouTube India after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir which took away the lives of 26 innocent tourists. Ever since the attack there were serious boycott calls over Pakistani artists being part of an Indian project. So with Fawad Khan being the lead of Aabeer Gulaal, the film faced heavy backlash and was not allowed to release in India.
As per the sources close to the project had earlier revealed that Aarti Bagdi’s directorial venture would be released in 75 countries except India on August 29, 2025. However, the movie’s release was postponed and now the director has confirmed recently that the release date has now been moved to September 12, 2025.
‘Aabeer Gulal’ would have marked the comeback of Fawad Khan to Indian cinema after his last role in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma but it was not meant to be as the movie was not permitted to release in the country.
Many trade organisations, including the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), had stood firm on their stance for a ban on Pakistani artists working in the Indian film industry.
