The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has shaken up the world with heavy trade penalties on India and the trade war they had with China earlier this year. Reacting to the trade war, China began an outreach program to India as their President Xi Jinping wrote a private letter to the President of India Droupadi Murmu.
As per the reports that have come out, the letter was intended to gain an idea on if India is willing to strengthen their ties with China once again. It was reported that even though the letter was written from the Chinese President to the Indian President, the message that was intended was swiftly delivered to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
The reports have also claimed that the letter by President Jinping expressed the concerns that he had on any prospective US-India agreements that might end up harming the interest of his nation. The President, in the letter, had also named ‘a provincial official who would steer Beijing’s efforts.’
The central government of India began considering the outreach made by China seriously a few months back in June, when the relations with the US were getting shaky. India was also looking at the moves that President Trump was making, threatening India of increasing the tariffs. Plus, he had claimed that he had brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after the two countries were involved in a huge struggle after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in which 26 people were killed.
After Donald Trump penalised the nations with heavy import duties, both India and China came to an agreement to speed up the efforts to move past their tensed relations after the 2020 border clash. Both the nations agreed to renew the talks over the long-standing boundary disputes that they have had.
