The Mahindra Group has taken another big step as they have managed to win a contract from European planemaker Airbus SE. The group will now be manufacturing the European company’s H125 helicopter’s fuselage. A few months back, in April, Mahindra Aerostructures Pvt. had secured the contract to make another variant of Airbus helicopters’ fuselage back in April.
While the contract signing took place the Managing Director of the Mahindra Group, Arvind Mehra was present there. Along with him there were the President and Managing Director – India and South Asia, Jurgen Westermeier, Executive Vice President –International, Wouter Van Wersch, were present at the signing.
As per the contract that Mahindra has secured, the industrialisation will begin at the Mahindra Aerostructures’ facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, with immediate effect. If the reports are to be trusted, the Mahindra Group will be aiming to deliver the first fuselage in two years time by 2027.
The Mahindra Group will be manufacturing the fuselage for the H125 Helicopter as per the contract. The fuselage is the main body of an aircraft to which the wings, tail and the landing gears of the aircraft are attached.
The H125 Helicopter of the Airbus is known worldwide for its ability to function at a higher altitude and even at extreme weather conditions thus making it a suitable aircraft that can be used in air ambulance services, inspection, and utility operations. The aircraft holds the record for the biggest altitude landing and take-off which it performed on Mount Everest at 8,848 metres.
If what Airbus claims is considered to be true, the aircraft outclasses all other single-engine helicopters competing in the segment. The H125 as of now, has completed three crore flight hours, as per data available on the Airbus’s Corporate Helicopter’s website.
