Recently a very old clip circulated over the internet of Bollywood superstars Vinod Khanna and Rekha dancing alongside Pakistan’s then cricket captain Imran Khan, who later became the country’s Prime Minister. As all videos which show interactions between popular figures from both neighbouring nations go viral, this clip has done the same and piqued the interest of the audience.
The clip shows Vinod Khanna and Rekha enjoying the music and taking to the dance floor. Vinod Khanna can be seen grooving with Pakistani actress Babra Sharif and cricketer Javed Miandad as well. But the best part of the video comes when the Bollywood star is inviting Imran Khan onto the floor and asking him to dance together.
At first ever composed Imran Khan seemed very hesitant to join the stars on the dance floor but with a little encouragement from both Khanna and his teammate Javed Miandad Imran joined in too. Seeing their favourite cricket star break a step on his floor, the crowd went berserk and cheered even louder.
According to the reports, the viral video is from a singing concert that was held in Pakistan 36 years ago back in 1989. The clip went viral on social media as many saw it as not just a fun dance video of celebrities but it is a reminder of the cultural ties and exchanges that existed between the two nations even though the political ties haven’t been stable at times.
Bollywood stars Rekha and Vinod Khanna were one of the biggest celebrities in the Indian film industry in that era. The stars shared screen in various movies over the stretch of their careers like The Burning Train, Raj Mahal, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Prem Tapasya, Rajput, Kshatriya, Parvarish, Judaai, Rakhwala, Inkaar, Khoon Ka Karz, Satyamev Jayate, Farishtay and Batwara.
