The whole debate that was going on around the selections of the squad for the Asia Cup has been settled as Ajit Agarkar, the head of the selection committee, has announced the Indian Squad alongside India’s captain Surya Kumar Yadav for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. They have announced a 15-member squad with four standby players and a new Vice-captain to assist Surya.

The most talked about matter up until the whole selection process was the mystery around whether India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill will be able to make his place into the squad. But to everyone’s surprise Chief Selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Agarkar not only announced him in the squad but has also announced that he will be the new Vice-captain of India in T20Is.

The squad was revealed following a meeting between BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and the selection committee. Many have however complained that the selection committee has completely ignored several deserving players who have proven themselves in the Indian Premier League.

Players like Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal have not been able to crack the squad and garner a place in the Indian side for the Asia Cup. Jaiswal has been named in the reserves but Iyer’s name was nowhere to be found despite his heroic efforts in the past two seasons of the IPL.

Few people are also upset over selections of some players with less impressive numbers and performances in the Indian squad. While Iyer (604) and Jaiswal (559) have scored a lot of runs in the IPL, players like Rinku Singh and Riyan Parag have been selected ahead of him who had a very below-par run in IPL 2025.

Team India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025:

Suryakumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh.

Standby players: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel
