Indian captain Shubman Gill who was hurled by the masses as the “Prince” has now stamped his dominance in World Cricket with a record-breaking series which saw him score a mammoth of 754 runs. However, former Indian cricketer, Ajay Jadeja believes that Ravindra Jadeja had a more consistent showing in the tour.
India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was their most reliable batter scoring 516 runs with the bat and mostly performed when India needed him the most. Although, the English conditions are not well suited for spinners let alone finger spinners so Jadeja wasn’t much effective with the ball but he made sure he compensated well with the bat.
Ajay Jadeja stated that nothing more can be said on Shubman Gill’s performance, it was simply amazing. But he thought that the left-arm all-rounder was more consistent throughout the series. In the entire series there were only two innings where he got early and he even remained not out in four innings.
“Is anything required to be said? The man has shown you what he can do. I think it’s outstanding. Shubman Gill has scored 754 runs, and you are saying that he has reached close to the best. He (Ravindra Jadeja) has scored nearly 550 runs. He has been more consistent than even Shubman Gill. He had four innings that didn’t end, because the batting ended from the other end. In the entire series, there were only two innings where he got out early,” he added.
Ajay highlighted the all-rounder’s performance throughout the series reminding everyone of the fight he put up alongside Indian tailenders in the Lord’s Test. Then he stood his ground in the fourth test taking India to a draw in the match that looked out of reach.
“If we try to remember his moments, it started with Lord’s, where you couldn’t win for sure, but he and (Mohammed) Siraj fought there. A change was seen there. The fortitude started from there. Then he kept standing in the next match and drew the match. Then he scored runs in this match (last Test) as well,” he further said.
