Tata Consultancy Services, which is the largest IT company of India, this Sunday on 27th June have announced that they will be cutting their workforce by 2% over the year. It is being reported that these layoffs will be affecting over 12,000 employees of its global workforce. The company has stated that employees from the middle to senior category will be the ones that will be impacted the most by these layoffs.
TCS has given out a statement on the situation and said, “TCS is on a journey to become a future-ready organisation… As part of this journey, we will also be releasing associates from the organisation whose deployment may not be feasible. This will impact about 2% of our global workforce, primarily in the middle and the senior grades, over the course of the year.”
This announcement from the IT giant has come just a couple of weeks after they announced that the company’s ‘priority’ focus is to provide wage hikes for over 6 lakh employees of the company. As of June 30, 2025, TCS’s workforce is somewhere around 6.13 lakh. In the recently concluded April-June quarter the company added its workforce by 5,000 employees.
The company has stated that they will be providing appropriate benefits, outplacement, counselling, and support to the employees that will be impacted to deal with the unfortunate situation. The IT company has noted that the impacted staff members will be provided with notice period compensation and severance benefits.
“This transition is being planned with due care to ensure there is no impact on service delivery to our clients… We understand that this is a challenging time for our colleagues likely to be affected. We thank them for their service, and we will be making all efforts to provide appropriate benefits, outplacement, counselling, and support as they transition to new opportunities,” the statement added.
