‘Della Bella: Badlegi Kahaani’ is a story of transformation and self-discovery, challenging societal norms and expectations in small-town India. WAVES Originals’ new Hindi feature film ‘Della Bella: Badlegi Kahaani’ will be available for streaming worldwide on July 18, 2025.
The movie explores themes of identity, ambition, and the complexities of growing up. The film follows the journey of ‘Della Bella’, a young girl who questions the stereotypes imposed by society and takes bold steps towards self-discovery.
Set in the fictional town of Mohabbatganj, the film follows Dollu, affectionately nicknamed ‘Della Bella’ by her classmates, as she forms new friendships and navigates the transformative phase of early youth. Della Bella starts questioning and challenging the societal expectations that restrict her ambitions and potential, embarking on a powerful journey of self-discovery and growth that explores identity, individuality, and the courage to forge her own path.
Although one of her classmates, Shanky, takes their friendship a step further, the film doesn’t follow the traditional romance narrative. Instead, it explores the emotional struggles that precede love – internal conflicts, identity crises, and the silent rebellion that leads individuals to discover their true selves.
The film is directed by Neelesh K. Jain, a renowned creative in the advertising world, who has also written the film’s songs and key dialogues.
Aashima Vardhan Jain makes her feature film debut in the lead role, alongside a talented cast including Ali Asgar, Kavita Kaushik, Govvind Namdev, Akhilendra Mishra, Ritik Ghanshani, Shekhar Shukla, Sanjay Goradia, Rakesh Srivastava, Samta Sagar, Paritosh Sand, Lokesh Mittal, Prackriti Bhaargava, Sundeep Sharma, Govind Pathak, Jaya Singh, Shalini Dwivedi, Rakhi Kishore, Maitri Bawa, Sagar Sharma, Sujeet, Tarun Srivastava, Charu Dutt, Zafrul Khan, Manish Saini, Varun Gaur Hansika, Shruti, Samarth, Simmi Khanna, Master Yug & Rajmani.
The film’s story is penned by young writer Sanya N. Jain, who has already published two English novels. Screenplay is created by Roop Agarwal and Yashassvi Neeraj Tripatthy. The music is composed by Raaj Aashoo, and the choreography is handled by Mudassar Khan. The soundtrack, featuring popular singers like Shaan, Hamsika Iyer, Swati Sharma, Raaj Aashoo, and Seepi Jha, effectively captures Della Bella’s emotions and adds depth to the story’s pivotal moments.
The cinematography is by Romit Pillai. This film is also the first offering from WAVES Originals’ new label, ‘Simple Cinema’, conceptualized by Neelesh K. Jain. The label aims to showcase relatable, socially relevant stories that blend entertainment with meaning. From this perspective, ‘Della Bella: Badlegi Kahaani’ is not just a musical family film filled with light-hearted entertainment but also a reflection of the inner world of young people who dare to shape their own futures.
Bringing an impact perspective to the film is changemaker Priya Samant, the Impact Advisor of the film, whose work focuses on harnessing the power of storytelling to drive social and cultural transformation. From an impact lens, Della Bella speaks directly to youth and diaspora communities—especially those navigating identity, tradition, and personal agency in a globalized world.
