There had been a lot of chatter around Virat Kohli ever since he announced his retirement from Test Cricket, a format he had said that was the dearest to him. Kohli, who was recently at an event for former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s foundation, YouWeCan, for the first time spoke on the topic publicly stating he knew his time had come.
The charity event for Yuvraj’s foundation YouWeCan had many stars gracing the floor such as Chris Gayle, Gautam Gambhir, Ravi Shastri, Sachin Tendulkar, Kevin Pietersen, Brian Lara, and Ashish Nehra. Gaurav Kapoor who was hosting the show invited Kohli to the stage and managed to get a reaction from him on his retirement. He told the star cricketer how everyone misses him in the whites on the ground.
Kohli finally spoke on his retirement stating, “I just coloured my beard two days ago. You know it’s time when you are colouring your beard every four days.”
Kohli was also asked about his bonds with former players like Yuvraj, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh. Reminiscing the old days, Kohli recalled how they took him under their wings. He stated that he shares a bond with them for life. Kohli also talked about Yuvraj Singh’s battle with cancer
“We shared a very good bond both on and off the field. When I started playing for India, him, bhajju pa and Zaheer Khan took me under their wings. Really helped me grow as a player, made me comfortable in the dressing room. These are the bonds I would cherish for the rest of my life. Watching him in the World Cup was very special and what we got to know after that was a shock. Being so close to him… we had no idea. Then his battle with cancer and again the champion that he is… coming on top and making a comeback to the team when I was leading the team,” Kohli said.
