The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have exposed the biggest medical college scam in the history of India. The investigation bureau has dug out a scam that was spread across multiple different states involving many institutions, senior officials, middlemen and on top of that a self-styled Godman all of whom were allegedly involved in a bribery racket.

The discovery of this scam by CBI has exposed the rotting medical education system in India. The CBI has found out many big names like DP Singh (former UGC Chairman and current TISS Chancellor), self-styled godman Rawatpura Sarkar, Suresh Singh Bhadoria of Indore’s Index Medical College were all involved in the humongous scam.

The whole investigation was started on the back of a bribe-for-inspection case at Sri Rawatpura Sarkar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SRIMSR) in Raipur. It was found that three doctors along with 3 other individuals accepted Rs 55 lakh to issue a favourable inspection report.

The doctors were caught red-handed in the investigation as the team recovered Rs 38.38 lakh from the inspection team and Rs 16.62 lakh from another official’s residence. The investigation bureau also discovered that the entire bribe was collected through hawala routes before being distributed amongst themselves.

However, the scam got large scale when the name of Rawatpura Sarkar, also known as Ravishankar Maharaj was mentioned in the FIR filed by the CBI. Referred to as “Baba close to power”, Rawatpura Sarkar has emerged as the self-styled Godman in the scam with people alleging that his trust had received undue favors from the government.

The CBI has also named around 35 officials in the FIR they have filed of this scam. The FIR included names of top officials like IFS officer Sanjay Shukla, who also served as the chairman of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). He was the trustee of the Rawatpura group whose name has come out in the investigation. While director Atul Tiwari is the only person arrested in this case.
