People have been waiting a long time for the first look of the movie adaptation of the Indian epic ‘Ramayana’, and now the wait is over. This Thursday, July 3rd, the makers released the first look of the first installment of the two part epic period drama starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in lead roles.
The sneak peak into the epic had the audience buzzing in excitement and people were applauding the movie’s VFX and background score. But people caught onto one part of the first look where it showed that the movie was written by Shridhar Raghavan. Many memes and trolls were made citing that the writer took the credits from Valmiki who penned the epic drama.
One of the social media users commented saying, “What about brother Valmiki?” Another user took a slight dig at Raghavan being named the writer of the movie and said, “Sridhar Raghavan calling himself the writer of Ramayana is not too different from an Indian calling themselves Caucasian or a homeopath calling themselves doctor.”
People were also comparing this rendition of the epic to Om Raut’s Adipurush on 16th June in 2023. Adipurush was heavily criticised for its below average VFX and poor dialogues and writing. Citing its example an X user wrote that having Raghavan as a writer is actually better. He wrote, “We may not like the idea of putting Shridhar Raghavan before Valmiki. But honestly, compared to Manoj Muntashir, this is an upgrade.”
However, the makers were pretty smart to attribute the story of Ramayana: Part I to Shridhar Raghavan in the credits so that audiences can know who has penned the adaptation of the Indian epic. Raghavan is a well-established writer in the film industry and has written films like Khakee, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3.
